This museum is different: Liveliness, laughter, astonishment, discovery at a location that sets the senses in motion and where art comes to the beholder. A museum that awakens pleasure in experiencing art, playfulness and contemplation in children and adults alike.

Museum Tinguely, built directly on the Rhine by the Ticino-based architect Mario Botta, is home to the biggest collection of works by Jean Tinguely (1925–1991), one of the most innovative and most important Swiss artists of the 20th century. The permanent exhibition shows a comprehensive overview of his creativity that spans four decades. Special exhibitions regularly take place which, departing from Tinguely’s works, present a broad spectrum of artists and themes of the 20th and 21st century: In this context, forerunners such as Marcel Duchamp and Kurt Schwitters, contemporaries such as Arman, Niki de Saint Phalle, Yves Klein are presented just the same as current trends. Museum Tinguely was opened in 1996 on the Kleinbasel side of the city and is surrounded by the Solitudepark. The museum is a cultural commitment of the company Roche.
