"We enhance the quality of our  life when be bring belief systems and perspectives that may be constraining, to the conscious surface."

David B. Wolf, Ph.D

Warning! Cognitive dissonance
Is the state of internal tension that occurs when newly obtained information, action taken or a decision taken is inconsistent with or contrary to a previous opinion, sentiment or value system.

In order to get rid of the resulting unpleasant feeling, people resort to different dissonance dissolution strategies, such as rationalizing, ignoring, downplaying, justifying their own course of action or changing the current view or opinion. The tendency always tends to be the most convenient way, out of the confrontation.

Frantz Fanon once described it very aptly: "Sometimes people believe very strongly in a certain thing. If confronted with evidence directed against this matter, the new evidence can not be accepted. That would lead to an extremely unpleasant feeling called cognitive dissonance. Because it is so important to protect the original faith, they will rationalize, ignore, and even deny everything that is incompatible with it. "
