Emanuela Hutter. She’s an international icon. Queen of the Underground. The irrefutable, indisputable, shakeyourbootable lead vocalist of the mighty Hillbilly Moon Explosion, beloved by legions of fans from Sao Paolo to Helsinki, from LA to London, from Madrid to Osaka. Sure. We know. But, aside from being the artist who introduced an unsuspecting rockabilly audience to the concept Italian torch vocals, Emanuela is and always was, first and foremost, a songwriter. Drawing from roots ranging from the Ronettes tunes she first heard on the jukebox at her parents’ restaurant to the sneering vitriol of Nina Hagen’s punk all the way to the yearning heartache of Patsy Cline, Emanuela’s songwriting remains a unique, at times eccentric voice in today’s all-too-conformist musical landscape. To nurture and foster all this – and to ultimately present it to you, dear listeners, as this very album – requires someone exceptional. A true master. Jimmy Sutton of Hi-Style Records is that person. Together with sound wizard Alex Hall, Sutton supplanted Emanuela into the fiercely creative environment of his Chicago studio, where, adding the virtuoso guitar stylings of Joel Patterson into the mix, they laid down a selection of Emanuela originals; old school style - live on the studio floor. Enter JD McPherson of Robert Plant & Alison Krauss fame (and, more recently, Jessica Simpson). Himself also a legendary singer and songwriter, McPherson wrote the iconic ‘Everybody’s Valentine’ for Emanuela, thus providing the opener for this proper little gem of an album you're holding in your hands right now. Ladies and gentlemen, after 25 years of working with Emanuela and after a gazillion road miles, I still get goosebumps listening to her singing. I still remain what I was from Day One: A fan. And, as a fan, I’m excited to announce the release of Emanuela Hutter’s new album – ‘Goosebumps’. Oliver Baroni - musical director, producer, singer, The Hillbilly Moon Explosion
