It is August 29, 1926; the ship Belvedere docks in Buenos Aires, having sailed from Italy. Nicola Calia arrives there with his son Angelantonio to fulfill his dream of a better life. Fear, enthusiasm, and sorrow intertwine during that crossing, which characterizes every migrant’s journey…
The map of *Stelle sconosciute* begins with this story from Southern Italy, traverses Argentina, and arrives in Ticino, encapsulating some of the stories discovered along the way. The research and creative impulse behind this performance spring from an emotional and physical memory, passed down from one generation to the next in my family. It retraces the footsteps of those who, before me, dared to dream and create a better life, compelling me to shift my gaze and move my body elsewhere, to rediscover parts of myself. *Unknown Stars* portrays and explores the inevitable and necessary movement of people and peoples, in all its contradictions and its intense, painful, and daring beauty, revealing the courage and desire that drive all of humanity on the move.
