Technological innovations usually originate in the laboratory. However, what works perfectly on a laboratory scale is by no means a blueprint for large-scale implementation. The path from invention and development in the laboratory to successful innovation that can hold its own on the market is often long and fraught with obstacles. To accelerate the innovation process, Empa has set up various demonstrators: For the building sector, this is NEST – Next Evolution in Sustainable Building Technology. At Empa and Eawag's modular research and innovation platform, new technologies, materials, and systems are tested, further developed, and validated under real-life conditions. Close cooperation with partners from research, industry, and the public sector means that innovative construction and energy technologies can be brought to market more quickly.
